The Hovercraft Transporter

HT001

This is an Iveco turbo diesel fitted with two tone horns with a selection of tones, loudspeaker system (Fig 1), a VHF radio telephone (Fig 2) which can be diverted though the loud speaker, a rear facing TV camera with a screen (fig Fig 3) in the cab, this is switched on automatically when reverse is selected or it can be activated by the driver. The unit is also fitted with a winch and an high volume low pressure air compressor for inflating the hovercraft sponsons, there is also plenty of locker space the equipment detailed above is common to both HT001 and HT002 transporters.

To the rear of the cab is just the plane chassis except for the winch, compressor, hydraulic power pack and lockers, to this is secured, with four twistlocks, a purpose built platform to carry the Hovercraft.

The platform has a vertical hydraulic ram at each corner, these are controlled by a switch and buttons on a wonder lead. After unlocking the twistlocks the rams are extended lifting the platform and hovercraft clear of the truck. The truck is driven out and the platform and hovercraft are lowed to the ground. The rear legs or unlocked to allowing them to be lowed flat to the ground allowing the hovercraft to fly off. (See photos below)

For recovery the hovercraft is winched backwards onto the platform and the procedure reversed.

The hydraulic power pack is fitted on the platform with its own battery pack but is normally powered with the truck batteries via a jumper lead which can be plugged into one of two sockets on the truck.
