Morecambe RNLI Station

Registered charity number 209603

Home for the Hover Appeal

We need to raise £250,000
to build a home for our
hovercraft-will you help.

Dear Surfer

The hovercraft at Morecambe Lifeboat Station was the first rescue hovercraft in the RNLI. Trials of the hovercraft took place in spring of 2002 and The Hurley Flyer, which was kindly donated by Kay Hurley MBE, came on station in late December 2002.

The hovercraft is currently in temporary accommodation off the promenade but this is unsuitable. The garage is a car ride away from the Lifeboat Station and this adds vital minutes to any Launch. When the hovercraft returns from a call-out it needs to be washed down and receive safety checks taking around 2 hours and the present accommodation is not sympathetic to this. This operation often takes place in the early hours of the morning; volunteers are a car ride from any spare parts for the hovercraft, hot food and a toilet.

It is proposed to construct a building, near to the lifeboat station and planning permission is currently being negotiated with the Council.

A new permanent building will cost in the region of £250000.

Morecambe lifeboat crew and fundraisers are committed to raising this money and we need help - will you help us?

Your help may be as simple as giving a donation or you may prefer to undertake some form of fundraising such as running a raffle in your Local hostelry, selling our pin badges at your workplace, running an event or taking part in a sponsored event. We can, provide support material such as posters etc; simply telephone:-

                    Jean Raffaelli on 07836 605466.

Our hovercraft has been a crucial tool in the saving of lives on Morecambe Bay since it came into service and we need to provide a permanent home in the near future, we shall be fundraising vigorously over the next year and we do hope you will feel able to support us.

With very best wishes.
Yours sincerely

Harry Roberts
